Computer Problems

Recently I was having some problems with my computer. The first time I started having problems it occured when I was on the internet visiting different site. I noticed that on some pages text was visable and on other pages it was not. I also noticed it was visabled if I was typing in upper case all caps but not in lower case. After 6 weeks of trying different things to fix the computer to see the text on the web pages I did a windows restore. This fixed the problem.

Then the following day after reinstalling all my software and cpoying my documents it went down again. I was updating my Norton Antivirus. To install the updates it had to shut the computer down and turn itself back on automatically. When it came back up this time instead of loosing the text on the web pages it was the text on the computer. This time I had all squares, dots, question marks, lines, ect. I could not read anything that was on my computer but I had no problems with the text on the web pages.

I had a computer tech come look at it this time. He initially thought it was one of the font settings. After an hour and tring different types fonts he came to the conclusion that all my setting were correct and to do a restore again. He also suggested I leave off Norton Antivirus that it caused a lotof computers to have problems. This time I was unable to do a windows restore because I had just done one.

Since my computer is an Acer I contacted their technition. He told me to do a restore I had to first turn off the computer, turn it back on, and when the Acer screen came back up to hit the alt key and the F10 key both at the same time till the screen went black and saw windows98 come on the screen. That meant the computer was restoring itself. He also told me that there were better antivirus products out there but was unable to recommend one.

I contacted the computer tech who worked on my computer and he told me to google freespace avg because he could not remember the website for Grisoft. I went to their site and downloaded for frre their trial version of both the antivirus and spyware. Now my problem was fixed and it was something very simple. If I would have taken my computer to a repair store such as Data Doctor, Geeks on Call. Geek Quarter, Comp USA, or Geek Squad at Best Buy, they would have charged me hundreds of $$$$ and told me they replaced parts even if all they did was a restore to fix the problem. Because the baby boomer generation use computers but don't understand about parts or repairs them te computer repair companies take advantage of us.

So you need to beware of your antivirus if your computer is giving you problems.
